If it’s been a while since your last visit to Virginia City, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the improved availability and expanded menu options over the past year. The local food scene has become impressively eclectic, with new restaurants offering everything from Korean cuisine to a high-end steakhouse. Of course, classic favorites remain, whether it’s a hot dog from the Silver Queen, a juicy burger from the Firehouse Saloon and Grill’s outdoor BBQ, or a fresh-made breakfast sandwich at The Roasting House, where they roast their coffee beans on-site. Best of all, everything is within walking distance. Here are a few more standout spots.

Crazy Calamities at The Cider Factory

Crazy Calamities at the Historic Cider Factory is a local favorite, offering delicious breakfast and lunch with creative twists—ever tried Potato Balls? Located on South B Street, just a block west of the Historic Fourth Ward School, this unique spot features a spacious outdoor patio for dining when the weather is nice. Inside, the historic charm shines through with exposed rock and stone walls surrounding a cozy central fireplace. Built in 1863, the Cider Factory is one of the few structures that survived the Great Fire of 1875, making it a truly special dining destination. Crazy Calamities is open Thursday through Monday from 6 AM to 3 PM, and starting in February 2025, they’ll be serving dinner twice a week.

Cafe Del Rio

If you’re craving fresh, authentic Southwestern Tex-Mex, Café Del Rio is the place to be. Housed in a former grocery store and rooming house, this charming spot honors its historic roots while serving consistently delicious, made-from-scratch dishes. Some standout favorites include the Little Blue Pot, Gospel Fried Chicken, and the Santa Fe Stack. Keep in mind that Café Del Rio’s hours vary by season, so be sure to check ahead before you go.

Red Dog Saloon

A favorite among visitors, the Red Dog Saloon and Ruby's Pizza offer a spacious venue with a lively bar and a family-friendly menu. Featuring pizza, wings, salads, nachos, and sandwiches—don’t miss the Southwest Egg Rolls—there’s something for everyone. The bar boasts an excellent selection of craft beers on tap, perfect for pairing with your meal. The Kitchen Sink Bakery and Rotisserie

Right next door to the Silver Queen Bar and Hotel, you’ll find The Kitchen Sink, a charming family-run bakery serving up delicious breakfast and lunch options. While the fresh-baked goods displayed in the window are tempting, stepping inside is a must to take in the irresistible aroma. From cookies and pastries to artisan bread, croissants, and made-to-order hot and cold sandwiches, there’s something for every craving.

Delta Saloon and Sawdust Steakhouse

In the heart of Virginia City is the recently reopened Delta Saloon. This historic property features a large bar, music stage, and a large open dining and gaming area. On the north side of the building is the recently opened Sawdust Steakhouse. The second floor offers another kitchen and large banquet area for private parties. Fine dining in the steakhouse occurs Thursday through Sunday. A separate menu with food service is available seven days a week in the bar area from 11am to 9pm.
